Vintage Circus Posters Stamps

The United States Postal Service (USPS) has issued a new 16 stamps sheet with each stamp having a postage value of Forever/49Cents named "Vintage Circus Posters Stamps" on the 5th of May 2014. Circus companies used posters in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to advertise when they were coming to a town. The 16 stamp self-adhesive stamp sheet features eight different posters with each stamp displaying one complete poster. Selvage of the sheet shows a picture of a circus entrance. It also features two of the most popular circuses of the time who were "Ringling Bros." and "Barnum and Baily". The back of the sheet includes a brief discussion of the history and purpose of circus posters. Today, You can find these posters at the John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art in the Tibbals Digital Collection.
