United Nations Postal Service has issued 12 new stamps in three mini sheets with postage values $1.15, 1.70 Euroes, and 2.00 CHF named "COP17 Eye on Africa" on September 24th, 2016. These three mini sheet feature 4 different endangered species animals and plants found in Africa. The stamps are being issued to increase public awareness about the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora(CITES). It is an international agreement between 182 countries and the European Union. Its aim is to ensure that international trade in specimens of wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival. This year is the 17th meeting of the Conference of the Parties to CITES and is known as COP17. The conference was held in Johannesburg, South Africa between September 24, 2016 and October 5, 2016.

COP17 Eye on Africa stamps can be purchased as separate mini sheets, and assorted FDCs. The size of each stamp is 40mm x 30mm and the size of each mini sheet is 100mm x 80mm. They were printed by Carter Security Printing, France using the offset lithography printing process.
