Endangered Species

The United Nations Postal Service has issued 12 new stamps that have postage values of 1.40fs, 0.70 Euro, $1.15 named "Endangered Species" on the 23rd of October 2014. This is the twenty second set of Endangered Species stamps that the United Nations has issued since the series began in 1993. The series was launch to inform the world how important it is to protect certain species. The names of each of the stamps shown above is listed in the following table:

  • $1.15 - Hippocampus denise (Denise's pygmy seahore), (Top left)
  • $1.15 - Rhincodon typus (Whale Shark), (Top right)
  • $1.15 - Sphyrna lewini (Scalloped hammerhead), (2nd from Top left)
  • $1.15 - Scleropages formosus (Asian arowana), (2nd form Top right)
  • 1.40Fs - Arapaima gigas (Arapaima), (3rd from Top left)
  • 1.40Fs - Cetorhinus maximus (Basking shark), (3rd from Top right)
  • 1.40Fs - Pristis pristis (Largetooth sawfish), (4th from Top left)
  • 1.40Fs - Acipenser baerii (Siberian sturgeon), (4th from Top right)
  • 0.70 Euro - Cheilinus undulatus (Humphead wrasse), (5th from Top left)
  • 0.70 Euro - Carcharodon carcharias (Great white shark), (5th from Top right)
  • 0.70 Euro - Manta birostris (Giant manta ray), (Bottom left)
  • 0.70 Euro - Polyodon spathula (Paddlefish), (Bottom right)

"Endangered Species" stamps can be purchase as Blocks of 4, Sheets of 16, and Assorted FDCs. The size of each stamp is 39.2mm x 28.6mm with a Perforation size of 12 1/2 x 12 3/4 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Joh. Enschede Stamps Security Printers B.V. (Netherlands) using the offset lithography printing process. Quantity of each printed is:

  • $1.15, 100,000 of each
  • F.s. 1.40, 88,000 of each
  • 0.70 Euro, 108,000 of each
