The United Nations Postal Service has issued 3 new stamp panes of 12 that have postage values of 49 cents, 1.0 Fs and 0.70 Euro named "Jazz" on the 30th of April 2014. Jazz originated at the beginning of the 20th century and is rooted in African traditions, European musical forms, and has evolved into various styles across the globe. In 2011, the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) proclaimed 30th April as International Jazz Day. Each year the UNESCO promotes this day with jazz events being held in different communities across the globe. This year Jazz event will be held in Osaka, Japan.
The designer Mr. Baradat describes the three piece pane set as one large composition. He listened to popular jazz singers Chet Baker, Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Duke Ellington and a host of others from the 1920s through 1950s. The final result is these three Jazz stamp panes that have an atmosphere of music and a sense of sound through color.
