The Late Iron Age - Age of the Vikings Stamps

The Sweden Postal Service has issued 5 new stamps that have a postage value of first class (brev) named "The Late Iron Age - Age of the Viking" on the 26th of March 2015. Each of the stamps depicts a Viking object that was from the period of 550 - 1050AD. A map shown below marks the actual location where each of the objects was found. Refer to the letter assign to each object in the list below for the mark location.

  • A - Three Small Naked Figurines - made in gold and bronze plating and found in Lunda, outside of Strangnas, Sodermanland.
  • B - Jewelry in the Shape of a Women - made with silver with traces of gilding. It was found in a grave in Aska close to Vadstena.
  • C - Warrior Buried with His Horse - found in a richly decorated grave in Broa on the island of Gotland.
  • D - Small Bronze Buddha - found in Helgo in Lake Malaren.
  • E - Gilded Piece depicting a Flying Man - found outside of Lund in Skane

The Late Iron Age - Age of the Viking stamps can be purchased as a Booklet of 10, Souvenir Sheet, Collector Sheet and assorted FDC's. The size of the stamps is 44.1mm x 26.6mm and the size of the souvenir sheet is 187.5mm x 148.0mm. Each was printed using the Recess and/or Offset printing Technique. .
