Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra 250 Years

The Norway Postal Service will issue a new stamp with a postage value of 31kr named "Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra 250 Years" on the 3rd of October 2015. The stamp depicts a violinist in front of Grieg Hall in Bergen. It is being issued to honor the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra for 250 years of music. The orchestra was founded in 1765 and is one of the oldest orchestras in the world. Now a national orchestra of Norway which consists of 100 musicians. It has been based in Grieg Hall since 1978; and has gained national and international recognition for its music with more then 30 recording releases in the past few years. Over the past 250 years it has be led by conductors: Edvard Grieg, Johan Halvorsen, Harald Heide, Karsten Andersen, Dmitri Kitajenko and Aldo Ceccato. Since 2003, the orchestra has been led by American Andrew Litton. Starting this year Edward Gardner will take over as chief conductor for the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra.

Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra 250 Years stamp can be purchased as a single, Sheet of 50 and FDCs. It will be printed by Joh. Enschede Security Print using the offset printing method. A total of 400,000 stamps will be printed.
