Norwegian Chess Federation Centenary

The Norway Postal Service has issued a new stamp that has a postage value of 15kr named "Norwegian Chess Federation Centenary" on the 1st of August 2014. The Norwegian Chess Federation was founded on the 20th July 1914 in Oslo and will reach its centenary (100 Years) in August of 2014. Norway Chess membership is made up of about 2500 people from 105 clubs in 16 chess circles. At this time there is real excitement in Norway about chess since Magnus Carlsens won the World Chess Championship last winter. His win has resulted in lots of publicity for the sport and sales of Chessboards and Chess pieces has increased substantially. If Magnus Carlsen can hold on to the chess title, the Norwegian Chess Federation believes that chess interest will skyrocket and so will their growth.
