Turtles in the Marine Environment Se-tenant Block of 4

The Israel Postal Service has issued four new stamps with a postage value of 2.30 shekel named "Turtles in the Marine Environment" on the 9th of February 2016. The stamps depict 4 different turtles that can be found in Israel. They are listed in the table below with a short description of the stamp and its background:

  • Hawksbill Turtle (bottom left) - stamp is depicted with its scutes, scales and its narrow head with a background view of the Gulf of Eilat.
  • Green Turtle (top left) - stamp is depicted with the underbelly of the Green Turtle with a background view of the sea as seen from underwater.
  • Loggerhead Turtle (top right) - is depicted with its scutes and scales pattern traveling along the seabed.
  • Leatherback Turtle (bottom right) - is depicted with its hard skin shell traveling along with jellyfish in the background, which is the Leatherback main food source.
Description of the First Day Cover - The first day cover has a marine turtle hatching from an egg in the foreground; and a newly hatched turtle making its way toward the sea, leaving typical tracks in the sand is featured in the background. No information was available about the FDC stamp.

Turtles in the Marine Environment stamps can be purchased as a sheet of 8, Collection Pack and FDC. Size of each stamp is 30mm x 40mm. They were printed by Joh. Enschede, The Netherlands using the 4 color offset print process.
