Centenary of the Battle of the Somme

The Ireland Postal Service has issued a new stamp with a postage value of 1.05 euro named "Centenary of the Battle of the Somme" on June 23, 2016. This stamp features an image of the Royal Irish Rifles from the Imperial War Museum. The battle of Somme took place near the Somme River in France. It was a terrible battle that killed more then 1 million soldiers from both sides. It began on July 1st, 1916 and ended November 18th, 1916. The Allies had hoped that the Somme offensive would end the first world war, but it ended with no significant gain for either side. Ireland post has issued this stamp to remember the Irish and other country Soldiers who gave their lives in this battle

Centenary of the Battle of the Somme stamp can be purchased as single, Sheets of 16, and FDC. The size of each stamp is 44mm x 38mm with a stamp perforation size of 13 x 13.5 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Cartor Security Printing using the lithography printing process with 102gms TR PVA gum paper.
