Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo

The Guernsey Postal Service will issue six new stamps with postage values of 43p, 57p, 58p, 64p, 70p and 78p named "Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo" on the 6th of May 2016. These stamps depict 6 different pictures that represent parts in the novel Toilers of the Sea that Victor Hugo wrote. He also publish many different poems in his time. What inspire him to write this particular novel was when his son was swimming in a cave and became tangled up with an octopus. From this he created the novel named The Abyss which later was changed to Toilers of the Sea. Each of the stamps is described in the following list:

  • 43p Stamp: Gilliantt the Fisherman
  • 57p Stamp: Durande Wrecked
  • 58p Stamp: The Great Storm
  • 64p Stamp: A Great Storm
  • 70p Stamp: Devilfish Octopus
  • 78p Stamp: Deruchette Sails Away

Toilers of the Sea by Victor Hugo stamps can be purchased as a set of 6, Sheets of 10, Presentation Pack, and assorted FDCs. The size of each stamp is 44.45mm x 27.94mm with a perforation size of 13.75 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by BDT International using the offset Lithography printing process with 110gsm unwatermarked paper with PVA Adhesive.
