Chinese New Year: Year of the Monkey Set of 6

The Guernsey Post will issue six new stamps with postage values of 42p, 56p, 57p, 62p, 68p and 77p named "Chinese New Year, Year of the Monkey" on the 20th of January 2016. Its a new year and the Guernsey post celebrates the new year with a new Chinese New Year stamp issue "Year of the Monkey". This issue is the third issue of the Chinese New Year series by the Guernsey Post. Each of the stamps has been assigned a name that is listed in the table below:

  • 42p Stamp - The Three Plenties Monkey
  • 56p Stamp - The Fire Monkey
  • 57p Stamp - The Aristocratic Monkey
  • 62p Stamp - Noble and Successful Monkey
  • 68p Stamp - Mother and Baby Monkey
  • 77p Stamp - Three Wealthy Monkeys
Chinese New Year is also known as the Lunar Chinese New Year. Each year the Chinese zodiac is used to select what species will be assigned to the New Year. The Monkey is the ninth of twelve different selection on the zodiac. It starts on the 8th of February 2016 and ends 27th of January 2017 when a new zodiac sign is selected for the year. Where did these zodiac signs all start? Historians say it started in the time of the Shang Dynasty (1766 BC -1122 BC). When deities and ancestors were honor. Today it is celebrated as a new year with parties, reunions and other social events.

Chinese New Year: Year of the Monkey stamps can be purchased as a set of 6, Souvenir sheet, Sheets of 10, Presentation pack and FDCs. The size of the each stamp is 30.5mm x 40mm with a perforation size of 13.3 using the 2cm reference. The size of each sheet is 100mm x 140mm. They will be printed by Lowe Martin using the offset lithography printing method with 110gsm unwatermarked PVA adhesive paper.
