Fish Skin

Faroe Island Postal Service has issued a new stamp with a postage value of 50 DKK named "Fish Skin" on September 26th, 2016. This is a new type of stamp issue made with cod fish skin. Onto each stamp a square piece of tanned cod skin had been glued. The skin is patterned with a metallic color tones which change when view from different angles; and to top it off each stamp looks different. Each fish skin on the stamps was tanned by Atlantic Leather in Iceland. To my knowledge this is the first and maybe the last time fish skins will be used on postage stamps. This makes these stamps a special stamp collectors item. The Special Folder shown below contains one stamp, One FDC and an English test about this issue.

Fish Skin stamp can be purchased as a single, special folder or assorted FDCs. The size of the stamp is 40mm x 30mm. It was printed by Carter Security Printing, France using the offset engraving printing process.
