Year of the Rooster

Christmas Island has issued two new stamps with postage values of $1 and $3 named "Year of the Rooster" on January 10th, 2017. The stamps feature a Rooster and Chinese letters that represent the Year of the Rooster calendar year. Year of the Rooster runs between 28 January 2017 and 15 February 2018. In the Chinese Zodiac the Rooster is the tenth sign and it announces the new dawn. The fable about the Rooster is that it coaxed a hiding sun back into the sky and returned warmth to the world. Read about the fable in the minisheet depicted below. It is also said that people born during the Year of the Rooster are confident, observant, resourceful and courageous. To name a few during our time their is Britney Spears, Cate Blanchett and former Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

Year of the Rooster stamps can be purchase as a set of 2, Minisheet, Gutters and FDCs. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 37.5mm and the size of the minisheet is 136mm x 70mm. Stamp perforation size is 14.6 x 13.86 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by RA Printing using the offset lithography printing process with Tullis Russell paper.
