Major League Baseball All-Stars

The United States Postal Service (USPS) will issue four new stamps that have a postage value of forever domestic first class rate named "Major League Baseball All Stars" on the 20th of July 2012. These four new commemorate stamps being issued honor four of the most greatest baseball players who ever played the game. In 2012 the USPS salutes Joe Dimaggio, Larry Doby, Willie Stargell, and Ted Williams. Each of these players was a hall of Famer and they were selected for all star teams multiple times during there careers. A short description of each player is listed as follows:

  • Ted Williams (1914-1999) - played for the Boston Red Socks and was the last Major League player to bat over .400 for a single season in 1941. During his career he won six American League batting titles and four home run titles. He is now consider to be one the greatest Major League Baseball hitters ever.
  • Larry Doby (1923-2003) - was the first African American to play in the American League. He joined the Cleveland Indians shortly after Jackie Robinson broke the color barrier in the National Baseball League.
  • Willie Stargell (1940-2001) - Played for the Pittsburg Pirates and batted them to the World Series title in 1979. It was said that he was a natural born leader who created harmony among players of different backgrounds.
  • Joe DiMaggio (1914-1999) - lead the New York Yankees to ten pennants and nine world Series titles. He was consider one of the best all positions players of his time.
