Distinguished Sailors

The United States Postal Service will issue four new commemorative se-tenant stamps that have a postage value of 44 cents named "Distinguished Sailors" on the 4th of February 2010. These 4 stamps depict four sailors who served with bravery and distinction during the 20 century. The stamp pane shown below identifies the four sailors, the approximate date of each photograph, and a ship named in honor of each sailor. Each sailor is listed in the table below:

  • William S. Sims
  • Arleigh A. Burke
  • John McCloy
  • Doris Miller

"Distinguished Sailors" stamps can be purchased as a Block of 4, Block of 10, Pane of 20 or FDC's. The size of each stamp is 39.62mm x 31.11mm and the size of the pane is 184.15mm x 190.5mm. They will be printed by Avery Dennison, SC using the Gravure printing process. A quantity of 25 million stamps will be printed using prephosphored Type II paper with pressure-sensitive gum.
