RIO+20 Stamps

The United Nations Postal Service has issued three new commemorative stamps that have postage values of $1.05, 1.40 F.s. and 0.70 Euro named "RIO+20" on the 1st of June 2012. These three new stamps depict scenes on the theme RIO+20 (Earth Summit 20) which refers to a United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development in 2012. The conference will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on June 20-22, 2012. The objectives of the conference is to secure renewed political commitment for sustainable development; and to address new and emerging challenges. The stamps as the conference focus on two specific themes: A green economy in the context of sustainable development and poverty eradication; and an institutional framework for sustainable development. The stamps also depict a happy healthily environment with a growing economy where low emission, low wastes, higher efficiency in resources as well as creating jobs that can lift people out of poverty.

"RIP+20" stamps can be purchase as singles, sheets of 20, and assorted FDCs. The size of each stamp is 34mm x 45mm with a perforation size of 13 using the 2cm reference. They were printed by Lowe-Martin, Canada using the offset printing process. Total quantities are:

  • $1.50 Stamp 146,000
  • 1.40 F.s. Stamp 116,000
  • 0.70 Euro Stamp 136,000
