International Year of Forest

The United Nations Postal Service will issue six new stamps with postage values of 44 and 98 Cents, F.s.0.85 and F.s.1.40, 0.62 and 0.70 Euro named "International Year of Forests" on the 13th of October 2011. These stamps depict the many uses of our forests scene through the eyes of the creative artist Sergio Baradat. The artist description of each are as follows:

  • Pharmacies of Man (top left) - the top part of these stamps are meant to illustrate our forests as untapped pharmacies, where many medicines and botanicals have been discovered. The lower part depict man as imposing his will on these forests for personal gain.
  • Migration and Purification (middle) - The top part of these stamps depict how wildlife depends on our forests using them for their homes and as guides for seasonal travels. The lower part depicts our forest in the oceans, which remind us of there importance in keeping our water clean.
  • Trees as Guardians of the Earth (top right) - the last set of stamps illustrates a magical forest with the earth underneath depicted as a glowing ball of energy. They also depict how trees protect our lands from soil erosion by air and water, plus their ability to clean our air and protect us from natural disasters.

"International Year of Forests" stamps can be purchased as a set of 2 for each country, Sheets of 8, Collection Folder, Silk cover or FDC's. The size of the stamps is 32mm x 40mm. with a perforation size of 13 x 13 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed Lowe-Martin Group, Canada using the offset printing process using Hexachrome and foils.
