2008 Endangered Species

United Nations Postal Service will issue 12 new stamps with postage values of 41 cents, 1.00 F.s., and 0.65 Euro named "2008 Endangered Species" on the 6th of March 2008. This will be the sixteenth set of stamps issue for this series which started on the 3rd March 1993. The series was started to enlighten the world on the need for protection of these animals. This year the endangered species feature a variety of Marine life. Each is identified in the list below:

  • South African Fur Seal (Top left New York)
  • Orange Cup Coral (Top right New York)
  • Longsnout Seahorse (Bottom left New York)
  • Grey Whale (Bottom right New York)
  • Pacific Walrus (Top left Geneva)
  • Brain Coral (Top right Geneva)
  • Pygmy Seahorse (Bottom left Geneva)
  • Beluga Whale (Bottom right Geneva)
  • Northern Elephant Seal (Top left Vienna)
  • Fire Coral (Top right Vienna)
  • Thorny Seahorse (Bottom left Vienna)
  • Sperm Whale (Bottom right Vienna)

"2008 Endangered Species" stamps can be purchased as Se-tenant blocks, Sheets of 16, Annual Collection or various FDC's. The size of each stamp is 39.2mm x 28.6mm with a Perforation size of 12.5 x 12.75 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede Stamps Security Printers B.V.,Netherlands using the Offset Lithography printing process. The quantity printed of each:

  • 41 cents - 41,000 sheets or 656,000 stamps
  • 1.00 F.s. - 43,000 sheets or 688,000 stamps
  • 0.65 Euro - 53,000 sheets or 848,000 stamps
