Day of Families

United Nations Postal Service has issued six new stamps that have postage values of 39 & 84 cents, f.s 1.00 & 1.30, and 0.55 & 1.25 Euro named "Day of Families" on the 27th of May 2006. The stamps are being issued to commemorate the international Day of Families on 15th May 2006. International Day of Families was created by the United Nations General Assembly in a resolution that passed on 20th September 1993. This resolution proclaimed this day shall be observed each year and that it provide an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families as well as to promote appropriate action. It is the hope of the United Nations that this day would become a powerful mobilizing factor on behalf of families in all countries. A day that would promote opportunity to demonstrate support for family issues in each society. The United Nations theme for 2006 is "Changing Families: Challenges and Opportunities".

"Day of Families" can be purchased as singles, Sheets of 20, or FDC's. The size of each stamp is 40mm x 30mm with a perforation size of 13 x 13 1/4 per 2cm reference. The stamps will be printed by Joh. Enschede Stamps Security Printing, Netherlands using the offset lithography Printing process. The quantity printed will be:

  • 39 Cents 226,000 stamps
  • 84 cents 186,000 stamps
  • f.s. 1.00 150,000 stamps
  • f.s. 1.30 150,000 stamps
  • 0.55 Euro 190,000 stamps
  • 1.25 Euro 190,000 stamps
