150 Years of the Swiss Alpine Club(SAC)

The Switzerland Postal Service will issue a new Mini-sheet that is made up of 4 stamps with postage values of 85, 1.00, 1.40, and 1.90chf named "150 Years of the Swiss Alpine Club(SAC)" on the 7th of March 2013. The Swiss Alpine Club to date is made up of 140,000 members with 152 huts. It is the fifth-largest sports association in Switzerland. Each hut is assign a certain number of activities and for this issue we will look at the SAC's Doldenhorn hut above Kandersteg. Its 2.30 a.m. and there is not a light to be seen down below in Kandersteg where the locals are sound asleep. But at 1,915 meters above sea level, it's time to get up. Aschi Muller, manager for the Doldenhorn hut prepares breakfast for six mountaineers who are getting ready to ascent to the summit. They start out on their ascent in the dark with headlamps. Then at 7:30 a.m. the other guests get up. This hut consist of 38 sleeping areas and is one of SAC smaller huts. It is a 2 1/2 hour ascent to the hut across streams and through forests and is not to strenuous for inexperienced mountains tourists. The first out of breath day guests reach the terrance and enyoy the quiet natural beauty of the mountains. "150 years of the Swiss Alpine Club" mini-sheet can be purchase as a single, Folder, Collection sheet, and assorted FDC's. The size of the mini-sheet is 105mm x 70mm and the size of each stamp is 50x42mm (0.85), 27.5x70mm (1.00), 77.5x28mm (1.40) and 27.5x42mm(1.90). All have the perforation size of 11 3/4 using the 2cm reference. The stamps will be printed by Gutenberg AG, Schaan, Liechtenstein using the offset 4 color printing method with 110gms white gummed paper.
