Stamp Day 2009 Bulle Miniature Sheet

The Switzerland Postal Service has issued a new minisheet with one stamp that has a postage value of 0.85 CHF named "Stamp Day 2009 Bulle" on the 13th of November 2009. The minisheet depicts the Gruyeres Castle which is an historical site that dates back to the 13th Century. The castle was abandoned in 1798 during the French Revolution when the Ancien Regime collapsed. Then, in 1849 the Radicals who were in power put it up for auction. The castle was bought and saved by John Bovy, a Genevan watchmaker, who entrusted it to his brother, the painter Daniel Bovy. Knights Hall was painted by Daniel Bovy in the 1850's with spectacular frescoes that are now regarded as the earliest depiction of Gruyere mythology. In 1861 the castle was passed to the Balland family who modernize it with water and electricity and created the famous plant mosaic in its French-style garden. In 1938, Canton Fribourg bought the castle and extensively renovated it. Gruyeres Castle then became a museum.

"Stamp Day 2009 Bulle" stamp can be purchased as a minisheet, FDC or Special FDC . The size of the stamp is 50mm x 30mm with a Perforation size of 14 1/2 x 13 1/4 using the 2cm reference. The overall size of the minisheet is 70mm x 105mm. It was printed by Joh. Enschede, Haarlem, Netherlands using the four color Offset printing process with 110gms mat gummed paper.
