Felix the Bunny

Swiss Postal Service has issued two new stamps that have postage values of 85 & 100 CHF named "Felix the Bunny" on the 10th of May 2005. The stamps depict a worldwide famous bunny name Felix who travels the world and writes to his girlfriend about his adventures. It all began in 1994. Children's book author Annette Langen and illustrator Constanza Droop brought the cuddly bunny together with his girlfriend Sophie, to life in their first joint book "Briefe von Felix" (Letters from Felix). In the book Felix travels to the cities of London, Paris, Rome, Cairo and New York. During his travels Felix recounts his adventures to his girlfriend back home in a steady flow of letters. In his letters, he mentions a big palace in London with lots of men in funny hats standing in front of it, and in Paris he writes that bread is as long as a broom-handle, and that men play with iron balls in the park. From Africa he describes striped horses called zebras, and in New York he was greatly impressed by a green figure as big as a house in a long dress and Holding a torch. The seventh book of Felix adventures is to be issued in Autumn of this year and is named "Exciting letters from Felix"

The 85 CHF stamp depicts Felix in Switzerland with goats where they travel through the landscape of Appenzell in eastern Switzerland. In the 100 CHF stamp Felix is sailing on the back of a swan over blue water of Lake Geneva to Chillon Castle near Montreux. The castle was once the home of the Counts of Savoy. The First-day cover motif shown below depicts Felix on a mountain top blowing a long alphorn.
