Swedish Highlights

The Sweden Postal Service has issued 4 new stamps with a postage value of 12kr named "Swedish Highlights " on the 14th of May 2009. The stamps feature high-rise structures for homes, entertainment, sports and communication. Each of the structures is listed below:

  • Turning Torso (bottom right) - is a residential building in Malmo that was drawn and constructed by Santiago Calatrava. The building was opened in 2005 and is 190 meters tall with 54 floors. It's Europe second highest residential building.
  • Balder Roller Coaster (Bottom left) - is located at the Liseberg amusement park in Gothenburg. Made of wood and just over one kilometer long with the main downward dip at a whopping 70 degrees. It reaches speeds of up to 90 kilometers per hour and is rated by many as the world's best roller coaster in its class.
  • Kaknastornet Tower (Top left) - located in stockholm and is the capital's most well known landmark. It stands at 155 meters and was inaugurated in 1967. One of Stockholm's most popular tourist attraction that was mainly built for TV and radio communication.
  • Lugnet Gigantic Ski Jumps (Top right) - located in Falun, Sweden. Its tower is 52 meters high making it the highest outlook tower in the Dalarna region. The longest jump recorded at this ski jump was 130.5 meters.

"Swedish Highlights" can be purchased as a booklet of 4, Souvenir Sheet, Collector's Sheet or FDC. The size of each stamp is 31.25mm x 39.9mm and the size of the Souvenir Sheet is 148mm x 187.5mm . It will be printed using the Recess printing process.
