Sweden Postal Services 2009 Issue

Sweden Postal Service has issued four new coil stamps with postage values of 5, 5.50, and 6 SEK named "Winged" on the 26th of March 2009. These stamps depict four magnificent birds of prey caught on camera by the multi-award winning master of photographer Brutus Ostling. Each of the birds of prey is listed in the table below:

  • White-tailed Eagle (Top left)- has a wingspan of about 2 1/2 meters and lives in coastal areas and mountainous regions.
  • Osprey (Bottom right) - is a specialist at catching fish. It can hover above the water surface while looking for food.
  • Short-eared Owl (Top right) - hunts insects and small animals. It breeds on marshland, forest clearings and mountain moors.
  • Sparrow Hawk (Bottom left) - hunts small birds and is usually found in the forests of northern Sweden. Its wings stretch out to about 70 centimeters.

"Winged" stamps can be purchased as singles, or FDC. The size of White tailed eagle and short-eared owl is 31.25 x 31.25mm.The size of the Osprey is 25.0 x 32.5mm and the size of the Hawk is 31.25 x 26.6mm. They were engraved by Lars Sjooblom and printed using the Recessed printing method.
