Sea Rescue

Sweden Postal Service will issue three new stamps and a souvenir sheet that have postage values of 4.80, 5.00 and 5.50 SEK named "Sea Rescue" on the 22th of March 2007. The three stamps depict different types of Sea Rescue operations that were perform in the past and present. An organization responsible for handling Sea rescue in Sweden is the Swedish Sea Rescue Society or SSRS. It is a volunteer organization that has 1,500 rescue volunteers at 65 sea rescue stations. It handles around 70% of all sea rescues operation which add up to about 1000 missions a year. SSRS is organized by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center or MRCC in Goteborg. Their main task is to receive alarms, decide on the suitable response and to rescue people in peril on the seas. The MRCC is manned round the clock and continuously monitors the international emergency frequency. Each of the stamps is describe below:

  • Air Sea Rescue (Top Left) - shows an air sea rescue exercise.
  • Swedish Lifeboat (Top Right) - shows one of the Swedish Sea Rescue Society's Victoria-class vessels. This stamp image is also used in the Souvenir Sheet with four sided perforation.
  • SSRS 100 Years (Bottom) - shows a rescue runner designed for sea rescue. Also shown is the Anna Wallenberg oar-powered lifeboat which was stationed in Stafsinge
"Sea Rescue" stamps can be purchased as singles, Collector's Sheet, Souvenir Sheet or FDC. The size of each stamp is 31.25mm x 26.60mm. . They will be printed using the offset Printing process.
