Greta Garbo

Sweden Postal Service will issue two new stamps that have a postage value of 10 KR each named "Greta Garbo" on the 23rd of September 2005. These stamp are a part of a joint issue between Sweden and the United Stamps of America to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Greta Garbo. The stamps depict the legendary Greta Garbo who was one of Sweden's greatest movie stars. Greta Garbo began her career at the Swedish Royal Dramatic theatre's acting school in 1922. Discovered at the age of 19 by director Mauritz Stiller, who gave her a part in the silent film "The Saga of Gosta Berling". While she was filming in Berlin, Garbo was discovered by one of the most powerful men in Hollywood, Louis B. Mayer who immediately signed a film contract with her. She then went on to star in several films which included Queen Christina(1933), Anna Karenina(1935), and Ninotchika(1939).

The pictures depicted on the two stamps is a still from the movie "As you Desire Me" and a profile drawn by the Swedish artist Einar Nerman. The FDC shows Greta Garbo in a film clip from the film "The Temptress" with John Gilbert and Pressens Bild.

"Greta Garbo" stamps can be purchased in a booklet of 4, Collector's sheet or FDC. The size of each stamp is 31.3mm x 39.9mm. The stamps will be printed by Sweden Post Stamps, Stockholm using the 1-color recess and 1-color offset printing process.
