Pane of 16

The San Marino Postal Service has issued four new stamps on the 16th of January 2002. The stamps celebrate the Winter Olympics being held in Salt Lake city (Utah, USA) from February 8th to February 24th 2002. The Olympics bring countries together from all over the world to compete in sporting events. It is a way to help bring unity to all the peoples of the Earth. The four new stamps are value @ 0,41 Euro and feature some amusing characters named: Pimpa a red polka dot puppy, Coniglietto the blue polka dot Bunny, Bombo the hippopotamus and Isotta the baby elephant. Each character carries an Olympic torch and is shown with the equipment for one of the Olympic sporting events. There will be a record 78 scheduled games in this years Winter Olympics so tune in.

The stamp can be purchase as a Block of 4, Pane of 16, or cancel to order with special first day issue postmark. An example of a pane is shown at the beginning of this newsletter. The size of the each stamp is 30 x 40 mm and the size of each sheet containing 4 blocks is 200 x 155 mm. There will be 130,000 samples of each stamp printed and each stamp will have a perforation size of 13 X 13. The printing method used will be offset.
