Astronomy

Royal Mail Postal Service has issued four new Astronomy stamps on the 24th of September 2002. This new issue will be a miniature sheet made up of four first class stamps. The stamps feature images of two galaxies and two nebulae. They are as follows:

  • Planetary Nebula in Aquila (Top Left)
  • Seyfert 2 Galaxy in Pegasus (Top Right)
  • Planetary Nebula in Norma (Top Left)
  • Seyfert 2 Galaxy in Circinus (Bottom Right)

Three of the four images were taken by the orbiting Hubble telescope, while the forth (Seyfert 2 Galaxy in Circinus) came from the Subaru telescope located in Hawaii.
The Astronomy stamps can be purchase as a mint Mini Sheet, Presentation Pack or in a Prestige Stamp Book. Each stamp size is 41 mm x 30 mm and the mini sheet size is 120 mm x 89 mm. The perforations size will be 15 x 14 and a PVC gum will be used. The stamps will be printed at the "The House of Questa." using the Gravure Printing process. Phosphor tagging will be applied as appropriate.
