Commonwealth Games Celebration Issue

On the 16th of July 2002 the Royal Mail Postal Service will issue 5 new commemorative stamps honoring the Commonwealth Games. Royal Mail has been issuing special stamps for the commonwealth Games since the Edinburgh Games of 1986. This year will be one of the biggest sporting events ever staged in the UK. There will be over 4000 athletes from 72 nations competing in 17 different sports over a 10 day period. For the first time the 2002 Games will also have events for the disabled athletes. The stamps are shown above featuring swimming, running, cycling, long jump and wheelchair athletics.

These stamps can be purchase as a single set, FDC with a choice of two different postmarks shown below, or as a Presentation Pack. Each stamp size is 60 mm(wide) x 21 mm(height) with a perforation size of 14.5 x 14.5. The number of stamps per sheet will be 100(5x20) and printing process used is Gravure with PVA adhesive.
