Magical Realms

The Royal Mail Postal Service has issued eight new stamps that have postage values of 1st Class, 60p and 97p named "Magical Realms" on the 8th of March 2011. These stamps depict some of the most popular characters from myth, legend and literature. Set up in a se-tenant set these stamps break down into 4 different stories with two characters depicted from each story. The stories included are: Legends of King Arthur, Narnia stories of CS Lewis, JK Rowling's Harry Potter series and Discworld of Sir Terry Pratchett. Each of the characters depicted on the stamps are as follows:

  • Rincewind (1st Class top left) - is a central character in many of the Terry Pratchett's Discworld novels.
  • Nanny Ogg (1st Class bottom left) - is a witch from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.
  • Dumbledore (1st Class 2nd from top left) - is the headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in the Harry Potter series.
  • Lord Voldemort (1st Class 2nd from bottom left) - is the main antagonist in the Harry Potter novel series.
  • Merlin (60p 3rd from top left) - is the legendary wizard featured in the King Author series.
  • Morgan le Fay (60p 3rd from bottom left)- known as Morgane, she is a powerful sorceress in the King Author series.
  • Aslan (97p top right) - is a Great Lion in the Chronicies of Narnia.
  • The White Witch (97p bottom right) - is the main villain of the Lion in the Chronicies of Narnia.

"Magical Realms" stamps can be purchased as a set of 8, Se-tenants pairs for each story, Presentation Pack or FDC. The size of each stamp is 35mm x 35mm with a perforation of 14.5 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by De La Rue Security Print using the Gravure printing process.
