150 years of railway in Norway

Norway Postal Service will issue four new stamps with postage values of 6.00, 7.50, 9.50, and 10.50 NOK named "150 years of railway in Norway" on the 18th of June 2004. The stamps depict different times in Norway's railway history starting in 1875 and ending in 1998. Each stamp is described below:

  • Koppang Station (6.00 NOK) - located on the Roros line and established on the 14th December 1875. This rail line was a narrow-gauge (1067 mm) line. Koppang was an overnight station for a long time and after the line from the south was converted to standard gauge (1435 mm) in 1931, passengers had to change there until the Koppang-Storen line was changed to the same gauge on 5 August 1941. The locomotive, type XVII no. 27, was built at Trollhattan Sweden and completed in 1886.
  • Dovre Station (7.50 NOK) - located on the Dovre line was built on 6 December 1913. It was designed by Arnstein Arneberg. The background of the stamp has an acanthus rose design.
  • Flatmark Halt (9.50) - located on the Rauma Line and completed on the 30th November 1924. It was built for the opening of the railway from Verma to Andalsnes. The locomotive a Di 3.619 shown began operations on the 24th October 1958. In the background an outline of the Kylling Bridge in Romsdalen is shown.
  • Airport Express Train (10.50 NOK) - began operation in 1998 and became the flagship of Norwegian State Railways. It was designed by Terje Meyer, Bruno Oldani and Enzo Finger. The locomotive was so successful that it won national and international awards. In the background is the mast for the overhead contact wire.

"150 years of railway in Norway" stamps can be purchased as a single set of 4, Presentation pack, Collector's set, Collector's sheet, or FDC. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede, Netherlands using the Offset printing process. Each stamp will be printed in sheets of 40 with a Quantity of 1 million 6.00 NOK, and 2 million each of the 7.50, 9.50 and 10.50 NOK.
