150th Anniversary of H.M. the King's Guard

Norway Postal Service has issued two new stamps that have postage values of 6.50 and 13.00 NOK named "150th Anniversary of H.M. the King's Guard" on the 15th of September 2006. These new stamps are being issued to honor and commemorate the 150th Anniversary of H.M. the King's Guard. This guard was started in 1856 and consisted of one hundred volunteers from the Norwegian corps of chausseurs. At that time it was named H.M. the King's Norwegian Guard and their mission was to guard the Palace in Stockholm. In 1888 it was transferred to Kristiania (Oslo) and became a training unit for conscripted NCOs. Then in 1940 two of the Guard's companies became actively involved in war and fought bravely at Midtskogen and Lundehogda. After the war the guard was renamed H.M. the King's Guard and its main role was to provide military guard and security for the King and his family. Today the Guard also consist of a band and drill company that is often seen at special occasions.

"150th Anniversary of H.M. the King's Guard" stamps can be purchased as a single set of 2, Miniature sheet, Presentation pack, Collection set, or FDC. They will be printed by Jon Enschede, Netherlands using the Offset Printing process. The quantity printed of each will be:

  • 6.5 NOK - 1 million stamps
  • 13.00 NOK - 800,000 stamps
  • Mini-sheet - 300,000
