Beyond the Coast

The New Zealand Postal Service has issued a new pane with 12 stamps that have postage values of 60c and $1.90 named "Beyond the Coast" on the 4th of May 2011. These new stamps depict twelve different species of marine life found in the New Zealand waters. The pane of 12 stamps was inspired by the Poor Knights Islands which are off New Zealands Tutukaka coast in the upper North Island. A total marine reserve and Nature reserve, these 11-million-year-old islands have an abundance of incredible marine life. Each stamp has been enhanced with silver to really bring the creatures to life. Each species listed below can be found on the pane starting at the top and moving toward the bottom:

  • Royal albatross
  • Humpback whale
  • White-faced storm petrel
  • John dory
  • Yellowfin tuna
  • Kingfish
  • Hammerhead shark
  • Hapuku
  • Demoiselle
  • Pink maomao
  • Snapper
  • Arrow squid
  • Lord Howe coralfish
  • Sandagers wrasse
  • Orange roughy
  • King crab
  • Yellow moray eel

"Beyond the Coast" stamps can be purchased as a pane of 12, or FDC's. The size of the stamps is 40mm x 30mm (9 horizontal, three vertical) with a die cut perforation. . They will be printed by Southern Color Print Ltd using the offset lithography printing process with 210gms paper.
