Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand

The New Zealand Postal Service has issued five new stamps with postage values of $0.50, $1.00, $1.80, $2.30, and $2.80 named "Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand" on the 3rd of March 2010. Each of the stamps feature a dinosaur reptile found in New Zealand a hundred million years ago. Each of the dinosaur reptiles depicted on the stamps are listed below:

  • Allosaurus ($0.50) - a 12 meter long meat eater that hunted in packs.
  • Anhanguera ($1.00) - a flying reptile with a five meter wingspan that could fly from birth.
  • Titanosaurus ($1.80) - a 14 meter long dinosaur that weight about 13 tons and travel in herds.
  • Moanasaurus ($2.30) - a 12 meter long dinosaur that had a skull 78 centimeters long and lived in the water.
  • Mauisaurus ($2.80) - a 20 meter long marine reptile that was the largest of its kind. It lived in shallow coastal waters and fed on small fish and squid.

"Ancient Reptiles of New Zealand" stamps can be purchased as a set of 5, Sheets of 20, Mini-sheet, Presentation pack, Limited addition pack or FDC. The size of each stamp is 52mm x 37.5mm with a perforation of 14.40 x 14.60 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Southern Color Print, Dunedin, New Zealand using the offset Lithography printing process with Tullis Russell 104gms gummed stamp paper.
