2009 Scenic Definitives

New Zealand Postal Service will issue six new stamps with postage values of 30 Cents, $1.80, $2.30, $2.80, $3.30, $4.00 named "2009 Scenic Definitives" on the 1st of July 2009. These stamps depict some of New Zealand's favorite scenic location that contain a tantalising glimpse of New Zealand stunning natural environments and sophisticated urban landscapes. Each stamp is described in the list below:

  • Tolaga Bay (30 Cents) - located on the North Island's east coast it is well known for the longest wharf (660 meters) in New Zealand
  • Russell ($1.80) - an historic township that established the first permanent European settlement and seaport.
  • Lake Wanaka ($2.30) - has an area of 192 square kilometers and is the forth largest lake in New Zealand. It's crystal clear waters are about 300 meters deep.
  • Auckland ($2.80) - known as the city of sails with a population of 1.3 million. It has more yachts and launches per capita than any other city in the world.
  • Rakala River ($3.30) - rising in the southern Alps and traveling 150 kilometers to the Pacific Ocean. It is New Zealand's longest largest braided rivers.
  • Wellington ($4.00) is New Zealand's capital city and the country's political center. It supports a thriving arts and entertainment scene with more cafes per capita than New York City.

"2009 Scenic Definitives" stamps can be purchased as a set of 6, Sheets of 50 and Sheets of 100 (30 cents only), Various Blocks, Booklet of 5, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 30mm x 25mm with a perforation of 13.33 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Southern Color Print, New Zealand using the offset lithography printing process with Tullis Russell 104gsm gummed paper.
