Introduction of the LUAS

Ireland Postal Service will issue two new stamps with postage values of 48 cents each named "Introduction of the LUAS" on the 30th of June 2004. The LUAS tram (streetcar) system is a modern technology that will provide state of the art public transport for Dublin. These two stamps feature images of the new futuristic models which will be gliding through the streets of Dublin very soon. LUAS tram system will provide greater accessibility for people whose mobility is impaired, with low floor trams flush with the kerb. It will also be environmentally friendly, with trams powered by electricity and therefore eliminating smoke and fume emissions.

"Introduction of the LUAS" stamps can be purchased as a single Se-tenant pair, Sheet of 16, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 36.0 mm x 36.0 mm with a perforation of 14 x 15. They will be printed by Irish Security Stamp Printing Ltd. using the Multicolor Lithography printing process with phosphor tagging. A quantity of 500,000 pairs will be printed.
