Ireland Post 25 Years Anniversary

Ireland Postal Service has issued a Special Edition of ten new stamps with postage values of 55c named "AN Post 25 Years" on the 9th of April 2009. These stamps are being issued to celebrate the 25th silver anniversary as a commercial State company. The Irish Post Office, of course has been around for very much longer time than that. But in the mid 1970 it was becoming clear that direct State management of such a vast enterprise was holding back Post Office development, particularly in telecommunication where significant investment was required to provide modern services. It was decide that two new state-sponsored companies would have the commercial flexibility necessary to modernize both telecommunications and postal services in Ireland. In 1984 the AN Post was on the road to a successful future.

"AN Post 25 Years" stamps can be purchased as a booklet of 10, Boxes of 100, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 20mm x 25mm for booklets and 25mm x 30mm for boxes with perforations of 14 x 14 for booklets and 11 x 11.5 for boxes using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Ashton Potter (USA) Ltd. using the Lithography printing method. A quantity of 12.5 million stamps for booklets and 60 million stamps for boxes.
