Chinese Year of the Rat

Ireland Postal Service has issued a new stamp with a postage value of 78 cents named "Chinese Year of the Rat" on the 23rd of January 2008. This new stamp is also being issued with a Mini-sheet. China is the country that developed the animal 12 year cycle. During the twelve year cycle a different animal is selected each year. This year the rat is the animal selected. Those born in the year of the rat are thought to be very demanding, hate being bored and want constant stimulation. They are considered to be brave and very intelligent. It is said that they can often see disaster coming so they mostly avoid it.

"Chinese Year of the Rat" can be purchased as a single stamp, Sheetlets of 16, mini-sheet or FDC's. The size of the stamp is 40.64mm x 29.79mm and the size of mini-sheet is 130mm x 74mm. Perforation size of 15 x 14 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Irish Security Stamp Printing Ltd. using the Lithography printing process.
