Old Cars

Iceland Postal Service has issued 4 new stamps that have postage values of 60kr & 85kr named "Old Cars" on the 15th of April 2004. Iceland imported its first motor car in 1904. Car imports did not begin to any extent until 1913 when the first T-Ford model came to the country. It was not until 1920 when cars became more numerous in Iceland. Nearly 170 cars had been imported at that time and most of the cars were Ford and Overland models. Other types of cars were Maxwell, Saxon, Chevrolet and Buick. In 1925 the use of cars became quite common and imports began to increase. More than 1434 cars had been registered in Iceland in 1930. Now the use of cars in Iceland had multiplied many times. Each of the cars depicted on the stamps is as follows:

  • Ford Fairlane Victoria 1956
  • Pobeta 1954
  • Chevrolet Bel Air 1955
  • Volkswagen 1952

"Old Cars" can be purchased in two booklets of 4 or FDC. The size of each stamp will be 26 mm x 36.94 mm and they will be printed by Carter S/A using the Offset Lithography printing process.
