Nordia 2013-Northern Lights

The Iceland Postal Service has issued four new stamps that have a postage value of 175 ISK named "Nordia 2013 - Northern Lights" on the 2nd of May 2013. This is a special issue for the Nordic stamp exhibition (NORDIA 2013) that has taken place in the Asgarour Sports Center, Garoabaer on the 7th-9th of June 2013. This is the sixth time that the NORDIA exhibition has been held in Iceland; and the Iceland post has issued this souvenir sheet of 4 stamps that depict the view of the Iceland sky when the solar winds light it up. Why we can't see these northern lights everywhere is because the earths magnetic field deflects the solar winds around the earth. Leaving only the poles to be affected where the solar winds charged particles leak through to our ionosphere and create a colorful light.

"Nordia 2013-Northern Lights" stamps can be purchase in a souvenir sheet of 4, or FDC. The size of the stamps is 36.20mm x 23.68mm and the size of the souvenir sheet is 113mm x 70mm. They were printed by Joh. Enschede using the offset Litho printing process with 196gsm self-adhesive paper. A total of 80,000 will be printed.
