Iceland Town Festivals

The Iceland Postal Service will issue five new stamps that have postage values of 103 ISK and 120 ISK named "Town Festivals" on the 2nd of May 2013. During the summer months Iceland really parties with Town Festivals being held all over the island. These festivals have become so popular that the Iceland Post decided to issue these five new stamps to identify some of the most popular ones being held on the island. Each of the stamps and the festival it represents is listed in the list below:

  • The Reykjavik Gay Parade (top left) - is held annually in the month of August
  • Never Been South Music Festival (Top middle) - it is held in the town of Isafjorour every year and has renewed the town image as music town.
  • The Great Fish Day (Top right) - is a family festival that brings people together to have fun and enjoy eating fish.
  • The Smelter Music Festival (Bottom left) - held in the musical town of Borgarfjordur Eystri; and each year the local community converts a herring factory into a concert hall.
  • The Vestmannaeyjar National Holiday (Bottom right) - began in 1874 and has been organized by the islands Sports Association each year. It has evolved into one of the country's most ambitious music festival that has never been canceled due to weather or natural disasters on the islands.

"Town Festivals" stamps can be purchase as a set of 5, Sheets of 10, Assorted 4-blocks, and assorted FDCs. The size of the each stamp is 33.35 x 28.00mm. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede using the offset Litho printing method with 196gsm self-adhesive paper. Total being issued will be 600,000
