The Saga of Burnt Niall

The Iceland Postal Service will issue a new souvenir-sheet with three stamps that have a postage value of 110 ISK named "The Saga of Burnt Niall" on the 15th of September 2011. This souvenir sheet is being issued to recall an event that happen 1000 years ago in South Iceland. It took place in Bergthorshvoll and deals with blood feuds that could be started with a minor insult. In this saga 100 armed men attack the farm of Niall and burnt him, his wife, and three sons alive. Niall's son-in-law Kari Solmundarson was the only suviror who took revenge on the arsonists. The souvenir sheet depicts some of the events that took place at that burning.

"The Saga of Burnt Niall" can be purchased as a souvenir-sheet of 3, or FDC. The size of the souvenir-sheet is 105mm x 70mm and the size of each stamps is 32mm x 56mm. They will be printed by Lowe Martin Group using the Offset Litho printing process with 110gms PVA paper. A total of 60,000 mini-sheets will be printed.
