Garden Parks III

The Iceland Postal Service has issued two new stamps that have postage values of 90 ISK (100g domestic) and 285 ISK (100g Europe) named "Garden Parks III" on the 4th of May 2011. These new stamps are the third issue in the garden parks series and depict some of the most beautiful gardens found in Iceland. The two parks depicted on the stamps are Austurvollur and the Parliament park. Each is described as follows:

  • Austurvollur (left above) - 100g domestic stamp is a park located in the center of Reykjavik. A statue of Jon Sigurosson who was a hero of Icelandic independence is in the center of the park. Around the park is the Parliament building, Hotel Borg, National Telegraph building and the Reykjavik Cathedral.
  • The Parliament Park (right above) - 100g to Europe stamp is the oldest garden park in Iceland. It was developed in 1893 for the parliamentarians who could sit and walk through the park for their own enjoyment.

"Garden Parks III" stamps can be purchased as a set of 2, Pane of 10, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 47mm x 32mm with a perforation of 13+ using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Lowe Martin Group using the offset Litho printing process with 100gms gummed paper. A total of 120,000 of each stamp will be printed
