Volcanic Eruption in Eyjafjallajokull

The Iceland Postal Service has issued three new stamps that have postage values of 50g local, 50g Europe and 50g International named "Volcanic Eruption in Eyjafjallajokull" on the 22nd of July 2010. Each stamp depicts a different phase of the eruption on Fimmvorduhals which started on March 20, 2010 with a relatively small eruption. On April 14th the eruption entered a second phase, creating an enormous ash cloud that led to the closure of most of Europe's IFR airspace for a few days. It was estimated that nearly 250 million cubic meters of ejected tephra with the ash plume rising to a height of approx. 9 kilometers. By May 21, 2010 the eruption phase had died down indicating that the volcano had become dormant again.

"Volcanic Eruption in Eyjafjallajokull" stamps can be purchased as singles, Sheetlets of 10, or FDC. The size of the stamps are 31.5mm x 39mm with a stamp perforation of 13 1/2 using the 2cm reference. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede Security Print using the Offset Litho printing process with Sopal 110gms gummed paper.
