Glaciers in Iceland

Iceland Postal Service will issue 5 new stamps that have postage values of 5, 60, 80, 110, and 300 ISK named "Glaciers in Iceland" on the 24th of May 2007. Glaciers cover about 11% of Iceland's Surface and the stamps depict five of them. Glaciers are formed when snow does not melt during the summers. These Glacier consist of Ice caps that cover terrain of various elevation. Each of Iceland's Glaciers depicted on each stamp is described below:

  • Breioamerkurjokull (5 ISK) - second largest in the world
  • Langjokull (60 ISK) - second largest in Iceland
  • Hoffjokull (80 ISK) - smallest ice cap in Iceland
  • Snaefellsjokull (110 ISK) - rises 1446 meters above Sea Level
  • Oraefajokull (300 ISK)

"Glaciers in Iceland" stamps can be purchased as singles, Sheets of 10, Gift Folder with Mini-sheet. or FDC. The size of each stamp is 40mm x 30mm, 30mm x 40.5mm and 70mm x 30mm. The size of the Giftfolder with Mini-sheet is 95mm x 165mm. They will be printed by Joh. Enschede using the Offset printing process.
