Icelandic Wrestling Tournament 100 Anniversary

Iceland Postal Service has issued a new mini-sheet with one stamp that have a postage value of 200 ISK named "Icelandic Wrestling Tournament 100 Anniversary" on the 21st of September 2006. The new mini-sheet is being issue to recognize the oldest and most famous sport tournament in Iceland. Called Glima, this Wrestling tournament has been held annually since 1906. Glima was developed in Iceland and is an ancient combative sport that dates back to the 12th century. Every year the best Icelandic wrestlers compete for the Gridle of Grettir Belt (shown on the stamp) which is the oldest and most impressive piece to be awarded in Icelandic sports. The winner receives the title of "Wrestling Champion of Iceland".

"Icelandic Wrestling Tournament 100 Anniversary" mini-sheet can be purchased as a mini-sheet and FDC. The size of the stamp is 30mm x 30mm and the size of the mini-sheet is 47mm x 80mm. It will be printed by Jon. Enschede Printer using the Offset (Embossed and varnished) Printing process.
