The First Jeeps

Iceland Postal Service will issue four new stamps that have postage values of 70 and 90 ISK named "The First Jeeps" on the 29th of March 2006. The stamps depict the first jeeps that were imported by Iceland between 1940 and 1970. A brief description of each is as follows:

  • Willys - built by America and imported to Iceland in 1942.
  • LandRover - built by England and imported to Iceland in 1951
  • Gaz-69 - built by Russia and imported to Iceland in 1955
  • Austin Gypsy - built in Great Britain and imported to Iceland in 1965

"The first Jeeps" stamps can be purchase in two different Booklets of 4, or FDC's. Each booklet contains 2 different Se-tenant pair stamps as shown above in the pictures. The size of each stamp is 26mm x 36.94mm. They will be printed by Carter Security Printing using the Offset Printing process.
