Resident Birds

Guersney_Alderney Postal Service has issued six new stamps with postage values of 32p, 37p, 45p, 48p, 50p, and 71p named "Resident Birds" on the 24th of May 2007. The stamps depict six different beautiful birds in their habitats found in Gursey_Alderney Island. Each of the stamps is described in the table below:

  • Blackbird (32p) - is pictured with a backdrop of Fort Houmet Hebe. It is found mainly in gardens, farmland, open fields and along berry-bearing hedges
  • Dartford Warbler (37p) - is pictured atop a bramble vine on Alderney's coast. It almost became extinct during the 1960's but since then has made a comeback.
  • Blue Tit (45p) is pictured in flight with Fort Tourgis in the background. It can be found in woodlands, gardens and along hedgerows. It feeds mainly on insects, caterpillars, seeds and bird table nuts. It is well know for its high-pitched, trilling song and churring alarm call.
  • Wren (48p) - is pictured with a German fortification know to islanders as the Odeon. The Wren can be found in parks, gardens, orchards and hedgerows.
  • House Sparrow (50p) - is found in most of the world but its population is on the decline.
  • Jackdaw (71p) - is found in most of the world and is known as a very out-going and aerobatic bird.
