Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid"

Guernsey Postal Service has issued five new stamps with a postage values of 26, 32, 36, 40, and 65 Pence named "Hans Christian Andersen's, The Little Mermaid" on the 3rd of February 2005. The set commemorates the bicentenary of master storyteller Hans Christian Anderson and his classic tale "The Little Mermaid". The five stamps depict different scenes from this heart-breaking story.

The Little Mermaid is a tragic story written by Anderson between 1835 and 1872. The story begins beneath the ocean, just before her fifteenth birthday, when she will be permitted to swim to the surface. She rescues a beautiful prince and falls in love with him, so she strikes a deal with the sea witch to make her human in return for her beautiful voice. Unable to tell the prince that it was she who saved him from drowning, he falls in love with another. The little mermaid then forsakes her earthly life for his future happiness.

"Hans Christian Andersen's, The Little Mermaid" stamps can be purchased as set of 5, Presentation Pack, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 28mm x 45mm with a perforation of 14. The stamps will be printed by Joh. Enschede using the Offset Lithography with stochastic screen Printing process with 110 gsm unwatermarked PVA paper.
