100 Years of Taxi Transport

Finland Postal Service has issued four new stamps that each have a postage value of 0.65 Euro named "100 Years of Taxi Transport" on the 11th of January 2006. The stamps are being issued to honor the centenary of taxi use in Finland. This new stamp set depicts four different types of taxis used in Finland during this 100 year period. In 1906 the first permit was granted to operate rental cars in Hanko Finland. Each of the stamps is described as follows:

  • Oldsmobile (top left) - shows ladies in hats being driven around in a rented Oldsmobile.
  • 1929 Chevrolet (Top right) - shows a taxi driver standing by his car in his outfit.
  • 1957 Pobeda (bottom left) - shows a Soviet made car and a taxi driver.
  • Mercedes-Benz (bottom right) - shows the new age of Taxis serving the public today.
"100 Years of Taxi Transport" stamps can be purchase as a Booklet of 4, or FDC. The size of each stamp is 33mm x 27.16mm with a safety perforation. The stamps will be printed by Walsall Security Printers, UK using the 4/3 Color Offset Printing process with 130g self-adhesive Paper. A quantity of 350,000 booklets will be printed.
